This book club needs a name. Five dollars to the person who has the best name.
So far the only suggestions for June/July I have come up with are Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. I would like to have a list of at least six books so that I know there is enough interest. This will also allow people to get the books and read them in whatever way they can. A couple more suggestions would be helpful. |

| | Vesper-Raymond Scott Woolson | ] | San Francisco is amazing.
Can we start a book club? I don't know how we will decide the readings or what is read, but I figure with so many people out of school it would give some incentive to continue reading. I suggest we do a book a month, and at the end of the month, we talk about it on here. I am not sure who would be down for that. We could perhaps make a facebook group dedicated to the club so that messaging one another would be fairly easy. Perhaps we could even discuss the books on the wall of the book club.
So far the book club particpants are:
Abbas, Lizzie, Trawick, Vince, Logan (I think). I am sure Finch would want to do it as well. Anyone else?
We should decide if this book club has a theme, and/or the method by which we choose what to read. Vince suggested we read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, which I think is a fine suggestion. I do not know how good the libraries are in Mobile, but the call number for this book is PR6059 .S5 N48. We also need to decide if there is a page limit. I think we should attempt to keep the books under 500 pages and avoid books that come in a series. Otherwise, I am not opposed to the suggestion of books that are generally considered genre fiction, i.e. mystery, romance, sci-fi. Also, it would be beneficial if the books haven't been read by the majority of participants. |

| | Stryper | ] | Logan Donaldson asked me to post this on Live Journal, incase any of you former AP American Lit. (or any literature enthusiasts) were interested:
"Hear ye, hear ye [he actually had a handbell while proclaiming this], Logan Donaldson and Marie McAfferty invite everyone to Baton Rouge, La. Sunday, March 6, 2005 to watch the spectacular television movie Their Eyes Were Watching God. We will meet at 7:30 in the Atchafalaya Room (Room 342) in the LSU Student Union. The movie will start at 8 p.m. eastern time on the ABC network. All the girls in attendance may once more argue if the main character Janie, is actually a "ho", while Logan and Hank sit in the corner and shake their heads, then forget they are in english class, and slip into a ridiculously immature, alternate reality, in which they discuss humorous events that are simply too absurd to ever take place. The movie, which stars Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry, Michael Ealy, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Ruby Dee, and is produced by Oprah Windfrey, is sure to be a cinematic treat.
After the the movie, everyone is welcome to enjoy delicious powdered beignets at Coffee Call, just minutes from campus. For further questions, or directions, call Logan Donaldson (251.377.4712) or Marie McAfferty (251.ninety-one, sixteen, nine hundred and sixty-nine). That's all for now. Go fuck yourself San Diego." |
